‘I have found the one my soul loves’ Song of Soloman 3:4
Jessica Joan was born and raised in Austin, TX and is extremely proud of it along with her southern roots. She attended the University of North Texas where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority and graduated with a major in Journalism. For the past three years she’s been working with Hilton Worldwide; she enjoys writing and traveling so this job is definitely a blessing to fit her travel needs. Jess is my best friend and more than I cold ever ask for. She is driven, goal oriented and hard working, but she is also the sweet, loving, supportive woman that any guy dreams of having. Her passion for life and faith in God provide an example which I strive to uphold everyday. She is the most amazing woman I’ve ever met, and loving her is so easy. I cannot wait to marry her and share our lives with each other. -Matt
Matthew Joseph was born in Morristown, NJ and moved to Dallas, then Kansas City to ultimately reside in Dallas. He attended Kansas University and then the University of North Texas (which I’m very thankful for) where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He graduated with a degree in History, his favorite subject. He currently is in the midst of fulfilling his dream of earning a Green Beret in the US Army--he just started the Q course and I couldn’t be more proud of him! MJ is my best friend and the love of my life. He’s the most kind hearted, faithful, loving, intelligent, passionate, goal oriented, all-American guy I’ve ever met. His courage to lead, humble nature and firm stance in his beliefs only make me strive to be a better person everyday. He has a passion for life that never ceases to amaze me and I look forward to spending the rest of our lives together! -Jess
How we met
It all started in the middle of summer 2010 right in the middle of baseball season! We both have a love for the sport yet our voices yell for opposite teams. Matt being born & raised in New Jersey , loves the Yankees and Jess is a native Texan & loves her Rangers!
The Rangers game was playing at the local pub down the street where Matt & Jess both attended college. Matt went with a couple of fraternity brothers and Jess went with her sorority sister, Kelly. With no chairs left in a packed room Jess spotted two open chairs that were surrounded by a guy and took them immediately so she and Kelly could watch the game. He claimed his two friends were sitting there but would be back shortly so we could sit there until they returned.
Upon their return, & to Matt’s surprise, a girl was sitting in his chair and it happened to be Jess. They talked the whole night and watched little of the game as they enjoyed each other’s company. Matt’s wit, charm and good looks immediately caught Jess’ eye. Jess’ bright smile and huge personality immediately attracted Matt to her. "The fact that she put up with me all night didn’t hurt either." After talking to her all night, I knew she was someone special, and someone I had to see again.
A couple of days later Kelly and Jess got invited to an actual Rangers game instead of just watching it on TV. Never turning down a game, we made a date of it! It was the first date together which ended up being a 6 hour evening due to rain delays and was an unforgettable night! We’ve been to several games since then but the best one is always the Rangers vs. Yankees for the two of us!
From there, our love took us to many places such as Fort Walton, Vancouver, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Rome, Barcelona, Koblenz, Kansas City, New Orleans, Charleston and all over the beautiful state of Texas. This journey has allowed us to truly live life together to the fullest. All of these experiences have led us to believe that our relationship is the biggest blessing in both of our lives. Our story is just the beginning and we can hardly image the possibilities that lie ahead of us!
"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you." John 15:12
Matt had gotten leave from bootcamp to come home for the holidays and we couldn’t have been more excited after being apart for nearly 13 weeks. After writing in letters to each other about what we wanted to do over the holidays we knew exactly where we wanted to eat, who we wanted to see and how we were going to spend Christmas and New Years all of which involved being by each others side.
Two trips to Austin were in order, one for Christmas with Jess’ family and the other for a family friend’s wedding on December 30th. No complaints though since Matt is just as in love with the gorgeous city. We were planning on just going down for the day, but instead Matt surprised Jess and the morning before he recommended they leave that day and enjoy her favorite city together just the two of them. They packed their things and headed south to enjoy a day full of food and the sites of Austin. At sunset they went up to Mt. Bonnell where they had been twice before and is truly a site to see that overlooks the whole city--you can’t go wrong with a view to the left of downtown and to the right of the Texas hill country. Taking it all in, Matt reached for Jess’ hand and told her how much the past 2 ½ years had meant to him and what a blessing it has been. He got down on one knee and said ‘Will you be my wife for my whole life and marry me?’ Without hesitation Jess shook her head and said ‘YES!!!’ We called our families to share the exciting news then headed to dinner Matt had planned at Roaring Fork, just steps from the capitol. It was a day we’ll never forget and in the city we fell in love in, got engaged and will soon to be married!

Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum

Together we knew we wanted a venue where we could have all of our friends and family under one roof and that was our goal. There are a lot of venues in Austin to choose from but nothing captured our attention like the Bob Bullock Museum. With Jess’s Texas roots and Matt’s love for history we knew this was it—along with its breathtaking beauty. If you’ve never been to the museum, you should make the time to look around while you’re here for the weekend!
